Meeting of the Steering Committee regarding action C5: Removal of the Sakhalin knotweed

On 9th June 2015 at 1130 AM in the Silesian Voivodeship Landscaper Parks Complex's branch office in Smoleń a meeting of the Steering Committe was organized.

The meeting was devoted to the removal of the Sakhalin knotweed in the Wodąca valley. Among the participants of the meeting there were: the members of the Presidium of the Steering Committee, the members of the task force dealing with the removal of the Sakhalin knotweed, and the members of the LIFE+ Jura Project staff.

Milena Ziętek, the Kroczyce refugium and the Środkowa Jura refugium specialist, delivered a presentation on the action C5: Removal of the Sakhalin knotweed. It consisted of two parts. The first one focused on the summary of the measures implemented in 2014, while the second elaborated on the scope of actions carried out in April and May 2015 and actions planned for the next few weeks.

In the concluding remarks Barbara Tokarska-Guzik pointed out the necessity of involving a variety of measures of the removal, as well as the importance of consistency and recurrence of the mechanical removal which is already taking place.

The presentation was followed by a field session which aimed at pinpointing the areas for further works focusing on the intensification of the removal of the Sakhalin knotweed.
