Meeting of the Steering Committee concerning action C9: Active protection through preventive patrols

On 24th March 2015 in the seat of the Silesian Voivodeship Landscape Parks Complex in Będzin a meeting of the Steering Committee took place focusing on the topic of the implementation of active protection through preventive patrols.

Among the participants of the meeting there were: the members of the Presidium, the members of the task force dealing with the preventive patrols, and the members of the LIFE+ Kraków-Częstochowa Upland Project staff.

Piotr Niedbał, the Deputy Head of the LIFE+ Kraków-Częstochowa Upland Project team, delivered a presentation on the routes and the schedule of preventive patrols. The patrols are scheduled for the second and the third quarter of 2015 and the second quarter of 2016. The commencement of the implementation of this action is planned for the first week of May 2015.

The patrol teams will consist of the Silesian Voivodeship Landscape Parks Complex staff members, representatives of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Katowice, and the members of the Forest Guard from the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland.

The patrols will take place in the most valuable parts of the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland on the territory of Natura 2000 sites: the Olsztyn-Mirów refugium, the Złoty Potok refugium, the Kroczyce refugium, and the Środkowa Jura refugium.

Due to the proximity of highly populated areas (Zagłębie Dąbrowskie region, Silesian region, Częstochowa, Kraków) these valuable areas are at risk of an increased exploration. The main threats include illegal vehicle traffic on the protected areas, and devastation due to littering and obtaining plants and rocks from the protected areas.

After the presentation the participants discussed the schedule in details. They also thoroughly analyzed the routes in each refugium, taking into consideration the elements of the infrastructure.

The meeting ended with Easter greetings.
