Endangered species and habitats protection of the Natura 2000 “Ostoja Wigierska” site LIFE11 NAT/PL/000431 conference

Between 27-28^th May 2014 members of our Life+ project staff (Artur Wojtasik – head of the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland section, Artur Szuba – head deputy, Dominika Grabara – Olsztyn-Mirów and administration specialist and Piotr Niedbał – Złoty Potok refugium and GIS specialist) took part in a scientific conference organized by Wigry National Park in the framework of their LIFE11 NAT/PL/000431 project: Endangered species and habitats protection of the Natura 2000 “Ostoja Wigierska” site.

The conference consisted of two parts: an indoors session and an outdoors session. During the indoors session the speakers presented objectives of the LIFE11 NAT/PL/000431 project and actions performed by various nature protection institutions in the Suwałki region and other environmentally valuable areas in Poland. The head of the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland section, Artur Wojtasik presented a speech on the “Realization of chosen means of active protection involved in the NAT/PL/432 project Protection of valuable natural non-forest habitats typical of the Orle Gniazda Landscape Park” in which he has highlighted the most important objectives and aims of the project.

During the outdoors session the participants visited the areas encompassed by the project, including areas where the following actions had been carried out: building of transects system for amphibians in places where their migration routes cross with communication routes, building of manure plates and reservoirs for liquid manure, land purchase and removal of invasive alien species. Additionally, the participants had the possibility to visit the most environmentally valuable sites in the Wigry National Park.
