Animal grazing within the framework of the project

This year the animal grazing started in May. 9 herds of sheep and goats were brought in to the territory of four Natura2000 refugia.

The grazing is carried out in Olsztyn-Mirów refugium, Złoty Potok refugium, Kroczyce refugium and Środkowa Jura refugium. This year the grazing is planned to last till the end of September. The presence of sheep and goats certainly is an attraction for the local communities of the areas where the grazing is carried out and for the tourists visiting the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland.

This action is carried out in order to maintain the proper state of the xerothermic grasslands and rock grasslands in Natura2000 refugia. Animal grazing is one of the forms of active nature protection widely used to protect non-forest habitats and prevent ecological succession.
