Meeting of the Steering Committee
A meeting of the Steering Committee took place on 16th December 2014.
Among the participants of the meeting there were: the members of the Presidium, the Head and the Deputy Head of the Silesian Voivodeship Landscape Parks Complex, and the members of the LIFE+ Kraków-Częstochowa Upland Project staff. It was a fourth meeting in 2014 and at the same time the last meeting this year.
Piotr Niedbał, the Deputy Head of the LIFE+ Kraków-Częstochowa Upland Project team, delivered a presentation on the actions carried out in 2014.
The main issues discussed during the meeting involved the removal of the Sakhalin Knotweed in the Wodąca valley, and the continuation of herding and grazing.
Firstly, the actions directed at the removal of the Sakhalin Knotweed were summarized: the elimination of the species was conducted by means of manual mowing and with the use of mechanical equipment. The members of the meeting were informed that the contractor who had been responsible for performing the removal had fully carried out his responsibilities.
Herding and grazing were was taken up next. The actions performed in 2014 were summarized. A conclusion was reached that the biggest problem connected with herding and grazing on the xerothermic grasslands was still getting the permissions from the land owners. The reasons for that may be connected with the reluctance or the lack of awareness concerning the need for active protection of these areas. Therefore, it is essential to continue the educational and informative activity among the local community within the framework of the Project.
The meeting was concluded with Christmas and New Year greetings.
